I have been fascinated by the idea of gates, screens and doorways for a long time now, and wonder whether the gates are constructed to serve as barriers, decoration, or portals to another dimension. Do they keep "us" in, or do they shut "them" out? Is the green world so very distant from us now, to be kept only in zoos or greenhouses? I'm glad the birds can fly between dimensions, carrying their own messages of freedom. Despite the beauty and intricacy of man-made objects that reflect on the natural world, life can still be seen fluttering between. No matter how we try to order and control it, nature will do what it must.
