Lost at Sea
Lost at Sea
February 1998
31 X 31 inches
This quilt was created for a Northern Star Quilter's Guild Challenge: The
Elements, where you had to use a block related to the element of choice. In
this case, I chose Water, and used the "Storm at Sea" block, which was
distorted into a 60 degree diamond and shaded to give the illusion of three
dimensions. I imagined floating lost in the ocean during a storm, but
finding help in the form of the dolphins swimming alongside me. The smaller
block depicts the companions we often have on our perilous journeys. The
quilt won first place for Most Watery in the challenge.
Juried into The Quilt and Sewing Fest at Myrtle Beach, "Down By the Sea"
special exhibit in April, 2002.
